About the artist
Working primarily with ceramic stoneware, K.P. Yang creates whimsical sculptures that explore the beauty of everyday emotions, childhood imagination, and the simple joys of being human. At the heart of his artistic practice is Ah Bu, a lovable, free-spirited character whose gentle smile and playful presence invite viewers into a world where innocence and imagination coexist.
With a distinctive rounded form, expressive features, and an endearing personality, Ah Bu embodies a childlike curiosity towards life. Whether carrying the moon, embracing the sunshine, riding an imaginary creature, or discovering the wonders of nature, each sculpture captures a moment of wonder, courage, happiness, or quiet reflection.
Yang's creative process celebrates the tactile qualities of stoneware. Through hand-modelled forms, earthy textures, subtle imperfections, and a harmonious balance of natural tones and vibrant colours, his sculptures retain a raw, organic quality. These characteristics reflect the artist's appreciation for authenticity and the beauty found in imperfection.
Beyond their playful appearances, the Ah Bu sculptures convey a deeper message about emotional connection, self-discovery, and the importance of preserving our inner child. Through humour, fantasy, and gentle symbolism, Yang encourages viewers to embrace life's imperfections, appreciate the present moment, and rediscover happiness in the ordinary.
