Zhang Xin

Zhang Xin is a contemporary Chinese oil painter whose work explores the ethereal boundaries between nature and identity. A graduate of the Oil Painting Department of the Sichuan Fine Arts Institute in 2012, Zhang Xin has cultivated a distinct visual language that merges hyperrealism with surreal abstraction. His luminous, dreamlike portraits immerse viewers in a world where the human form is both present and dissolving – interwoven with vibrant flora and organic forms, often evoking a deep sense of transience, emotion, and rebirth.
Currently based in Beijing, Zhang Xin’s practice delves into the evolving dialogue between the self and the surrounding environment. His paintings often feature serene, porcelain-like faces enveloped in translucent veils of colour and enclosed within an abundance of flowers that dance with the movement of the figures. Combining the fragility of flowers and of the self, Zhang Xin’s work helplessly evokes a curious look inside within one’s own identity.
