Gong Faping

Gong Faping was born in Jiangxi and currently resides and works in Guangzhou. He graduated from the prestigious Guangzhou Art Academy in 2010 and has since been working as a full-time artist. His artistic journey is deeply rooted in his childhood, and this is reflected in the subjects of his sculpture creations.

Gong is fascinated with depicting objects from a child's perspective, often drawing inspiration from the animal world and cartoons. His sculptures possess a remarkable fantasy-like quality, interwoven with the narratives of fables and myths. They feature a rhythm in their form and posture that embodies humour, imagination, exaggeration, and contemplation—a pure expression of youthful exuberance.

What sets Gong apart is his commitment to image-based expression founded on realism. While his sculptures appear charmingly childish and cartoon-like, their construction is firmly grounded in realism.
