The common issue with traditional Chinese ink on paper had occurred on this particular work. As you can see in the images, after removal from the frame there was significant yellow spots and general mould and dirt. Its not unusual to see especially heavy yellow spots around the edges in older works. This is due to non-acid free materials being used in the original framing, probably the mat board.
The client was looking for someone to help restore the painting and remove mould and yellow spots. As you can see further down, we were able to completely rejuvenate this work before applying to a new backing paper and preparing for the next step of reframing the work.
