Artist Ng Eng Teng is a famous Singaporean sculptor known for his figurative works which are found in numerous public locations across Singapore. We have been fortunate enough in the past to work on the restoration of Mother & Child located at Gardens by the Bay, and most recently we completed a multi-month restoration for one of his wall relief works at APSN.
The artwork itself is made up of 10 unique panels each of which is made from cement fondu and then painted. Each panel weighs around 60-70kg. The existing condition was quite bad as the works had been installed for some 40+ years and had not received any professional restoration or maintenance during this time. The school engaged us to remove the existing panels, make good the wall, store and restore the panels, and then install at their new campus.
With the passage of time nobody at the school really knew how the panels had been installed. We had seen one previous restoration where the vendor had spent weeks hacking away the entire wall, but we were able to find a more expedient solution that enabled us to remove the 10 panels safely in a single day.
Below we are happy to share some images prior to, during, and after the restoration. Our sincere thank you to the wonderful team at APSN for trusting us with the job and always providing excellent support throughout when needed.
