We had the distinct pleasure of welcoming Chinese artist Jiang Zhaojin to Singapore this month. Her visit coincided with the opening of her first solo exhibition at our newly renovated gallery, as well as a special event hosted by St Joseph’s Institution Junior School (SIJ).
Inaugural Solo Exhibition at Asian Art Platform
Jiang Zhaojin’s solo exhibition, which opened on June 21st, marks the first in our revamped gallery space at Cendex Centre. The renovation has significantly expanded our floor and wall space, allowing us to display a greater number of works. Her exhibition features a stunning array of new pieces, and despite several already being sold, the exhibition will remain on display for several weeks.
Visitors are welcome during our operating hours: Tuesday to Friday from 10 am to 6 pm, and Saturday from 10 am to 5 pm.
Collaboration with St Joseph’s Institution Junior School
A key reason for Jiang’s visit was her involvement in an event organised by St Joseph’s Institution Junior, in collaboration with Yew Tee Primary School, Bendemeer Primary School, De La Salle School, St Anthony’s Primary School, and St Stephen’s School. The event, titled “Harmony,” celebrated SIJ’s 70th anniversary and ran from June 23rd to 28th at ION Orchard. It showcased original artworks by students, emphasising the themes of art, science, and environmental awareness.
“Harmony” aimed to inspire contemplation of the balance between human creativity, scientific exploration, and environmental responsibility. Featuring diverse artistic mediums and interactive installations, the exhibition highlighted students’ creativity and their exploration of sustainability.
Given Jiang’s strong focus on nature and sustainability, she was an ideal participant in this initiative. SIJ students were introduced to Jiang’s work and her use of recycled denim as a primary material. During her visit, Jiang spent time with the students at SIJ before attending the exhibition opening at ION, where her works were displayed alongside the students’ creations.
We are grateful for the opportunity to be involved in such a meaningful project and commend the schools for their initiative.
