Chinese Ink on Paper

This particular Chinese Ink on Paper work was framed to showcase the partially unrolled scroll. The client needed someone to un-frame the work, restore it, and then reframe.

Before restoration

This particular work was not yet suffering from significant mould on the painting itself but there was significant discolouration of the backing paper and many evident dark brown mould spots. You can see these in the first image below towards the left and bottom of the work. If these spots are left untreated there is significant chance that over time these will spread quickly and also get into the painting itself.

The backing paper that the painting is mounted on would normally be a bright white tone but as you can see through the before images, it has turned a distinct yellow tone.

After restoration

As you can see in the completed restoration images below the backing paper on which the painting is mounted has gone from a dirty yellow tone to a fresh, clean white tone. Any sign of mould spots have gone completely negating the risk that existed from the existing backing paper which contained various brown mould spots.
