Cleaning Mouldy Canvas

A very common occurrence in a hot and humid country like Singapore is mould growth on oil on canvas paintings. We get a number of such works every month and aside from cleaning we may also be required to touch up some areas of damaged paintwork and revarnish for added protection. This particular example below was a very large, textured oil on canvas that was suffering from significant mould growth right across the work.

Below you will find various before and after photos highlighting the original state of the mouldy canvas and the state after cleaning, touch-up and varnishing. In general you will note that there is heavy growth of brown coloured mould on the textured surface, which is then gone from the post cleaning shots.
